** Moya Brennan’s heartfelt account of abortion regret
------------------------------------------------------------
The sad passing of Moya Brennan on Monday came as a shock to many, even though she had spoken openly about her illness and the toll pulmonary fibrosis had taken on her health.
The Clannad singer and harpist, who was 73, enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades with the group and as a solo artist. She recorded over 20 albums and received numerous honours, including a Grammy, an Emmy and an Ivor Novello Award.
Beyond her remarkable musical talent, tributes following her passing have highlighted her kind and generous nature, her unaffected attitude toward fame, and the deep importance of her Christian faith in her life.
She regularly addressed in interviews the abortion she underwent at 19, expressing profound regret and remarking at one point: “I wish I knew a little more about it before I went ahead and did it.”
Her song, Perfect Time, includes the words:
“I know forgiveness is the key not pride
I want to heal this pain I hide inside.
Free my fears and promise me
That you won't let me go
You're the one to comfort me
The past my God You know
Believe me
I'm not afraid
Teach me
To learn your ways
Carry me
Under your wings
In your perfect time”
While she leaves an outstanding musical legacy, her kindness and sincerity leave a lasting impression far beyond her art.

** An extraordinary week - and a stark warning for Irish Democracy
------------------------------------------------------------
It has been a truly remarkable and consequential week in Irish political life.
There’s been ample coverage elsewhere of what took place, from the fuel protests and the blockade at the Whitegate refinery to the political fallout that ensued.
The repercussions and analysis of what happened are, of course, far from over.
One point that is not in dispute in the wake of recent events is the deepening disconnect between those at the heart of government decision-making and ordinary citizens. We can only address this from a pro-life perspective, based on our own dealings with senior members of government and their officials.
Over the past decade, there has been a marked shift - from a time when senior government figures at least felt some obligation to engage with differing perspectives to one where positions have become so entrenched that opposing views are entirely shut out.
Most alarming of all is that throughout this entire period, those at the centre of power have appeared wholly unconcerned by the undermining effect their approach was having on democracy and basic accountability.

** Announcing the next two guest speakers for March for Life!
------------------------------------------------------------
We’re delighted to announce today two more guest speakers who will be joining us at the upcoming March for Life in Dublin on Bank Holiday Monday, 4th May! We will be announcing the full list of guest speakers over the coming weeks.
Councillor Ellen Troy of Aontú, who serves on Fingal County Council, has built a strong reputation as a committed community activist, supporting a wide range of initiatives across the greater Dublin 15 area. A consistent and fearless voice on pro-life issues, she also champions supports for women facing an unplanned pregnancy. After narrowly missing out on a Dáil seat in the most recent general election, she is very well positioned to make the breakthrough next time around!
Emmet Dooley, SPUC (Scotland) Director of Education and Outreach, is making a remarkable impact in engaging young people on the pro-life issue. Over the past year, among other things, Emmet - who hails from Ireland - delivered 168 presentations to schools across the UK.
In last week’s Vital Signs, we announced that Ken O’Flynn TD from Independent Ireland and Caroline Simons, legal consultant to the Pro Life Campaign, will also be guest speakers at the march.
There are more speakers to come, so watch this space. Make sure 4th May is clearly marked in your diary - we’re really looking forward to seeing you there!
🗓 Bank Holiday Monday, 4th May 2026
