Last week was the 55th anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. This vital piece of legislation stopped states with a history of voter suppression from enacting rules that made it harder for people to vote.
But in 2013, the Supreme Court gutted key provisions of this law that unleashed a flurry of oppressive changes to voting across the country. Since then, over 1,000 polling locations have been closed. States have disenfranchised thousands of eligible voters by unnecessarily purging voter rolls.
We must protect the right to vote and expand voting rights.
In the words of my friend, Rep. John Lewis, "The right to vote is precious, almost sacred. It is the most powerful nonviolent tool or instrument we have in a democratic society. Let nothing stand in your way to use it."
Sign my petition today to urge the Senate to immediately pass H.R. 4, the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

I will continue to honor the legacy and memory of John Lewis by fighting to expand voting rights every day. We must do everything we can to protect all Americans' right to vote.
