Join us on Thursday, August 20 from 6-7:30 p.m. ET for a virtual text bank event to promote participation in the 2020 Census. New York State is heading for an undercount in this major national survey—which means we risk losing access to life-sustaining services like Medicare, affordable housing and more. 

When we meet, we’ll start with some brief prep time to review exactly how the Census funds the everyday services we all rely on, discuss how it affects our representation in Congress and explain how it is guaranteed to be safe and confidential for everyone. We’ll then turn to our phones to spread the word among other New Yorkers.

The last time that the RiseOut action team came together for a text bank, we reached more than 20,000 New Yorkers. Let’s reach even more this month, and build community power together!

Thank you all for taking action in the last couple of weeks! During the shortened session, the legislature ultimately did not take up the Hate Crimes Analysis and Review Act or the “Walking While Trans” ban, two LGBTQ-affirming bills that we have been pushing for. This isn’t the outcome we hoped for, but we’re building momentum that will help make these bills a priority next session. Stay tuned for more opportunities to take action—our fight is not over yet!
