Easy access + kid-friendly flavors = youth vulnerable to nicotine addiction. ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌  ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

John,

An alarming new study out today finds tobacco retailers are literally everywhere in D.C. – and there are way more of them than McDonald’s or Starbucks!

This easy access, coupled with kid-friendly flavors, leaves youth vulnerable to nicotine addiction, and shows yet again why the D.C. Council must pass the bill to end the sale of all flavored tobacco products.

There are two things we need everyone to do today:

  1. Tell your D.C. Council member we must take flavored tobacco products off the market >>
  2. Spread the word by sharing this study on social media:

OTHER KEY FINDINGS FOR D.C.:

  • Tobacco retailers are ubiquitous. There are 10x more tobacco retailers than Starbucks.
  • Tobacco retailers are easy to access. Some 83% of D.C. residents live within a half mile, or about a ten-minute walk, of a tobacco retailer.
  • Over 81% of public schools are within 1,000 feet of a tobacco retailer.

These retailers are peddling candy-flavored tobacco products designed to appeal to youth: e-cigarettes in over 15,000 flavors, grape cigars, minty menthol cigarettes, and more.

These flavored products are driving the current youth nicotine addiction crisis. They shouldn't be for sale anywhere.

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is proud to partner with the National Cancer Institute-funded ASPiRE Center to promote the findings of this important study, which was conducted by researchers from the Stanford University School of Medicine, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Washington University in St. Louis.

Thanks for your help,
