This is horrifying, John.

Officials inside Trump’s Department of Homeland Security are working to deploy a “more powerful tool” to search voter rolls, as the administration pushes to collect voter data from states nationwide.

And behind the scenes, political appointees tied to the election denier movement are building systems to pull voter data from states, run it through federal databases, and escalate cases to Homeland Security Investigations.

That’s a dangerous shift. Federal systems with flawed data have repeatedly flagged eligible voters – including U.S. citizens – as potential noncitizens due to outdated or incomplete records.

This is exactly why Democratic Secretaries of State are so important. They are the ones standing between voters and efforts like this.

➢ They verify records using real, accurate systems.
➢ They protect eligible voters from being wrongly purged or targeted.
