Sign On: Last Chance to Oppose the HUD Mixed-Status Rule and Protect Families
There’s less than one week left to sign-on your organization to our comment to oppose the proposed Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) rule [[link removed]] and protect immigrant families. The proposed rule would deny housing assistance to eligible individuals — including U.S. citizens and lawfully present immigrants — if someone in their household does not have an eligible immigration status. Sign by April 20 to help us oppose the rule and keep families together.

Data: Views on Immigration Enforcement and Access to Benefits for Immigrant Families
Four fifths (83%) of Americans support health and social services for lawfully present immigrants, according to a new poll PIF released yesterday [[link removed]] . PIF worked with the research firm PerryUndem to develop the poll, which was funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and fielded by NORC in early March. Supermajorities supported access to programs that meet basic needs across party lines, including 92% of Democrats, 84% of Independents, and 74% of Republicans. Additionally, most respondents expressed concern about immigration enforcement actions; nearly two-thirds (64%) disapprove of how ICE is handling its job, and many opposed enforcement actions at previously protected locations like schools and hospitals. See full release and other findings at the link below.

Partner Sign-On: Child-Focused Letter to Oppose the HUD Mixed-Status Rule
The proposed Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) mixed-status rule threatens to terminate housing assistance for almost 80,000 low-income people, including 37,000 children, most of whom are U.S. citizens or otherwise “qualified” noncitizens, and to force the harmful separation or displacement of about 20,000 mixed-status families. This proposal would have profound and damaging consequences for the well-being and long-term success of children and their families. The Children Thrive Action Network (CTAN) invites children’s advocacy and provider organizations to sign on to a child-focused comment to oppose the rule and help protect the well-being of all children in the United States. Updated Materials: Medicaid and SNAP Data Sharing: What Advocates Need to Know
California and 21 other Plaintiff states recently asked A District Court to enforce a third preliminary injunction order to bar DHS and HHS from sharing or using Medicaid data of U.S. citizens and people who are lawfully residing, as required by the court. DHS and CMS’s most recent responses to Plaintiff’s raised significant concerns that some data had been shared in violation of the order, so Plaintiffs filed a motion with the court seeking to enforce the preliminary injunction. A hearing on the motion is set for April 30.
Similarly, in the SNAP program, USDA continues to threaten to cut states’ funding if they do not comply with a data request to provide six years of SNAP applicant and recipient records. The 22 Plaintiff states and DC recently filed an amended complaint on April 3 to stop USDA from seeking and sharing data. The judge scheduled a status conference for April 15, 2026.
Our refreshed analysis with NHeLP and the National Immigration Law Center provides more information about the state of play and parties to both of these cases.
