Hi John,
It’s Tax Day. That day in April when we settle up with the government.
And for a lot of people, that comes with a pretty fair question: what are we actually getting in return?
Because right now, it does not feel like our tax system is built around everyday people. Working families are paying more for health care, dealing with rising energy costs, and trying to make housing work on already stretched budgets. People are doing their part, but the system doesn’t seem to be doing enough for them.
In Connecticut, Democrats are working to address this inequity through proposals to expand sales tax relief on everyday essentials , create a child tax credit worth up to $600 per child , and provide state financial help for some residents as enhanced federal subsidies phase out.
That is why we do the work we do. Because people should not feel like they are doing everything right and still falling behind. They deserve a system that invests in their lives, lowers costs, expands access to care, and actually works for the people paying into it. This is a core belief of CT Dems.
That is the work in front of us, and it is worth getting right. Thank you for being part of it.
Sincerely,
Vanita Bhalla
Vice Chair, CT Dems
