Unless you are a political junkie, you may never have heard of California Congressman Eric Swalwell. But he was a darling of the Left and liberal media for leading the Russian hoax investigation against President Trump and for serving as the manager (prosecutor) during President Trump’s second impeachment trial.
Feted at fundraisers and a regular on MSNOW and CNN, Swalwell was an A-List political star. Celebrities such as Robert De Niro and Sean Penn contributed large sums to his campaigns. He even appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show.
Congressman Eric Swalwell
Then suddenly, an article [ [link removed] ] in the San Francisco Chronicle, accused him of sexually abusing some of his staff members. Swalwell vociferously denied this but immediately, leading fellow Democrats, Senator Adam Schiff (California), Nancy Pelosi (former House Speaker from San Francisco), Democratic House Leader Hakeem Jeffries along with other Democratic Party luminaries were calling for his head.
Within twenty-four hours, Swalwell changed from being the favorite to become the next California Governor to someone who will now have a hard time finding a job bagging groceries.
But how is this possible? Even hard-core Republicans like me when first reading the attacks on Swalwell believed he had a right to defend himself and not have his career destroyed in twenty-four hours.
Why did this happen?
The answer is obvious. Everyone, including the Democratic Party insiders along with liberal media hypocritical feminists already knew that Swalwell was abusing women but looked the other way because he was a leader in attacking President Trump. He was even sending pictures of his private parts to women. A true class act.
But what changed?
What happened was Swalwell’s presence in the California jungle primary for the Governor’s Mansion increased the chance of a Republican victory in this Deep Blue state.
In order to destroy the Republican Party, California created a primary system [ [link removed] ] that doesn’t recognize party lines. In other states, there are specific rules for what qualifies as a political party. For example, in my home state of Connecticut, Democrats and Republicans are recognized as a political party along with some minor parties such as the Green Party and the Working Families Party. Each of these parties has mechanisms for nominating their candidates. In Connecticut, this is done by a combination of conventions, signature gathering and if necessary, a primary for each party. The nominees then appear on the ballot in the general election in early November.
But California jettisoned this system into what is now referred to as “the jungle primary” [ [link removed] ] in which there is only one primary for a given election for all the political parties. The two candidates who get the most votes are then on the ballot in general election. The result is that in many instances, the two top candidates are both Democrats.
But this election cycle, there were so many Democrats running for Governor that the two Republicans running were neck and neck with Swalwell meaning that it was possible that the two winners would both be Republicans, locking the Republicans to take over the Governorship in the November election.
This could not be tolerated and odds are that one of Swalwell’s Democratic opponents leaked this story to the San Francisco Chronicle and the press dutifully did the Democratic Party’s bidding to prevent a Republican victory.
And to add insult to injury, it became known that Swalwell was paying his nanny, an illegal immigrant from Brazil, under the table to watch his three children while his extremely tolerant wife pursued her career.
Not only is Swalwell now dead in the water, but he had to resign his House seat also. But the Democratic strategy appears to be working. With Swalwell out, one of the other prominent Democrats running – Katie Porter or Tom Steyer – will emerge as one of the top two candidates. Maybe even both. The result will be that the Democrats will easily hold the Governor’s mansion.
Degenerate behavior is not unique to Democrats. Texas Republican Congressman Tony Gonzalez cheated on his wife and mother of his five children with one of his staff members. When the relationship soured, the poor woman committed suicide. He has chosen not to run for reelection. Florida Republican Matt Gaetz reported paid an underaged women for sexual access and his career is now toast. And President Trump was cavorting with a Playboy bunny [ [link removed] ] when his present wife Melania was pregnant with his son Barron.
If you want saints, go to church. But stay away from politics.
