Your Voice Matters Now to Help Secure
Religious Vaccine Rights For School Children in CA

A heartfelt thank you to President Trump’s Religious Liberty Commission for bringing national attention to the reality that families and students in several states are being denied religious exemptions for school vaccine requirements. AVFCA was honored to be part of this moment, with our Grassroots Director, Karen, testifying alongside her daughter, speaking on behalf of families impacted in California.

But recognition alone is not enough. In states like New York, California, Connecticut, Maine, and West Virginia, children are still being denied access to education, and families continue to face discrimination because their sincerely held religious beliefs are not respected. Now is the time to ensure this momentum leads to meaningful action.

Make your message personal and impactful.

Share your story and emphasize constitutional protections: If you or your child have been impacted by vaccine mandates without religious exemptions, briefly describe your experience. This could include being denied school access, losing employment opportunities, or being refused medical care.
Remind the Commission that these policies directly impact children’s access to education, healthcare, and everyday life, often forcing families into impossible choices.
Highlight that sincerely held religious beliefs are protected under the First Amendment and that policies should include reasonable accommodations rather than blanket exclusions.

Ask the Religious Liberty Commission to take action at the federal level: Ask that religious exemptions and protections be clearly and explicitly included in the Commission’s final report and policy guidance to the President.
Ask the Commission to recommend that federal education funding be removed or conditioned for public schools that do not allow religious exemptions to state vaccine requirements.
Urge the Department of Justice to take a strong and active role in supporting legal challenges that defend religious freedom in response to vaccine mandates, including AVFCA’s school vaccine religious exemption lawsuit in California.
