John,
Joe Biden just announced that Kamala Harris will be his official running mate.
This is a historic and long overdue moment that was made possible by the hard work that women, including women of color, have been doing for decades to make our voices heard. As the first Black and Indian American woman nominated by a major party as a vice presidential candidate, Kamala Harris has the chance to boldly lead and hold a seat at a table where women – and especially women of color – have been excluded for too long.
But choosing Kamala Harris as a running mate isn’t enough, John. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris both must be willing and prepared to champion a progressive platform that will help working people from the bottom up. They must lead an administration that will fight for policies that improve the lives of all women, especially women of color and trans women.
This includes addressing their records on policing and criminalization of Black and Brown communities and forging a new direction rooted in justice. As our country navigates the aftermath of COVID-19 and calls for racial and economic justice, it’s more important than ever to have a strong vision for how our country moves forward, together. We can’t leave anybody behind.
That’s why we’re asking Joe and Kamala to commit that their administration will:
I want women in the White House →
In 2020, women should be celebrated for being bold and visionary.
Women always make history. We are proud of so many of the women who have run for office, especially in this time of Trump, and jumped into this fight to defeat him. We know we'll make history again with a record turnout of women voters in this election. Women can and will decide the fate of this election. We are the majority of voters and we are ready to win.
We’re setting our sights on November 3rd, but also on what happens after that. There’s so much more we can achieve if we make sure the next administration is committed to not just putting one woman in the White House, but putting women leaders at the center of the Cabinet and every department.
Let’s get to work,
Rachel
