UPDATE: Houston City Council Set To Consider Repeal of New Sanctuary City Policy Just days after voting to impose restrictions on how Houston police interact with federal immigration agents, Mayor John Whitmire is convening a special meeting of the city council on Friday morning to unravel the new policy. As Michael Wilson reports [[link removed]], this move follows Gov. Greg Abbott's threat to revoke more than $110 million in state public safety grants.
The Houston Police Officers Union had objected to the policy, despite Whitmire and others saying that it reflected existing HPD practices. Now, Whitmire is changing his tune: "We can’t survive in a city that does not have public safety funding to the tune of losing $110 million." Fort Worth Proposes $1.3 Billion in New Debt Next month, voters in Fort Worth will be asked to decide on a debt package totaling more than $1 billion to be repaid by taxpayers. As Addie Hovland reports [[link removed]], the new bond debt is meant to fund a variety of infrastructure projects.
The debt package will be divided across six propositions, ranging from streets and parks to housing and animal care.
The city claims that the new debt isn't "anticipated" to require new tax burdens. Andrew McVeigh of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility describes that as a "total fabrication." External Review Suggests Eliminating County's Auditor Position A recently released forensic audit of Kinney County’s finances has raised new concerns about County Auditor Cheryll Jones. Travis Morgan has the details [[link removed]].
The external review highlighted Jones' lack of cooperation and concluded that her position should be dissolved. Her tenure has been marked by controversy, with county commissioners declaring last year she "abused the discretion of her office."
Under Texas law, a county with a population of under 10,200 is not required to have an appointed auditor. While the population of Kinney County is under 3,200, it has had a county auditor since 1981. Undercover Video Shows Continued DEI at UT-Arlington An activist group has released another undercover video that shows a now-former staff member at the University of Texas at Arlington discussing how the institution has maintained left-wing indoctrination materials in course content. As Adam Cahn reports [[link removed]], social work education has a long history as a repository for woke content, both nationally and in the Lone Star State.
This latest video produced by Accuracy in Media features undercover footage of Melissa Cruz, who at the time was a recruiter for UT-Arlington’s social work school. She discusses the institution’s approach to state-level restrictions on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
Instead of using “banned” terminology that could trigger administrative scrutiny, Cruz said university staff have rebranded specific concepts; for example, continuing education units previously labeled as “cultural competency” are now classified as “human service” hours.
“The statements reflected in the video do not represent university policy or practice,” UT-Arlington told [[link removed]] Texas Scorecard in a statement. “As a result, the employee referenced in the video is no longer employed by the university.” Investigator Hired by ISD Clears School Administrators A law firm hired by Collinsville Independent School District to investigate complaints against its officials found “insufficient evidence” to support assertions that three top administrators failed to report known misconduct by district employees. Erin Anderson has the story [[link removed]].
Parents have asserted that the administrators knew about past misconduct by baseball coach and special education teacher Derrick Jenkins. It is claimed that Jenkins was not reported to the Texas Education Agency, as required by law, until the most recent allegations were made against Jenkins in October 2025.
The TEA’s Educator Investigations Division is currently reviewing the complaints. REAL TEXANS Special Edition Bonnie Wallace on the Fight for Texas Children On this special edition of Real Texans, Sydnie Henry sits down with [[link removed]] conservative activist Bonnie Wallace. They discuss Houston ISD’s response to parents' efforts to remove filth from the school libraries.
