John,
Lost amidst the news of AG William Barr’s hearing and our campaign’s July fundraising deadline, we wanted to make sure you didn’t miss Hank’s appearance at another major committee hearing last month — this time, questioning Silicon Valley’s top executives.
It’s no secret the influence technology giants like Amazon, Apple, Facebook, and Google have not only on consumers across the country, but on our democracy as well. One thing’s clear — due to the enormous power these companies hold over our lives, they bear a responsibility to engage in fair and transparent business practices.
That’s why Hank, along with his colleagues on the Congressional antitrust panel, sought public testimony from these tech titans. The only way we’ll get answers about antitrust anti-competitive practices, the rapid spread of misinformation, and privacy breaches is by holding them directly accountable.
Hank questioned Apple CEO Tim Cook on Apple’s role in giving unfair preferences to larger app developers, which hurts the ability of small app developers to compete on a level playing field in Apple’s App Store. He also questioned Amazon’s Jeff Bezos on the spread of counterfeit products on their online marketplace, and grilled Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg about the company’s anti-competitive practices.
Hank won’t stop searching for answers until tech giants like these are held accountable, and the rights of consumers and small businesses are protected. Until then, Hank will keep holding their feet to the fire and looking out for everyday Americans.
The fight to protect our privacy, consumer rights, and freedom to compete with these industry titans isn’t over. Will you chip in to support Hank’s work to fight for expanded accountability?
