JUST IN: Joe Biden just announced that Senator Kamala Harris will be his running mate in the 2020 Presidential Election!

This is historic — she is the first woman of color to be on the presidential ticket, and if she wins, she will be the first woman EVER to serve as Vice President.

Senator Harris is a great choice for VP. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to chat with her earlier this year as she was working in the Senate to secure ballot access for all voters and additional election funding. I also did a virtual town hall meeting with her in May to discuss clean elections. I know she will continue to fight for voter rights, so I'm proud to give her my full support.

I've been a long-time advocate for more women in public office, and as a Democrat, I'm extremely proud of the Biden/Harris ticket representing our party. This VP pick is indicative of the transformation our country is seeing — we are in need of fresh leadership that represents our values and lifts up the voices of everyday Americans, and it's an exciting time.

We have a real chance to make history this election year, up and down the ballot. But in order to do that, it's critical that we make our voices heard through our votes.

As Secretary of State, my job is to protect voting rights and ensure clean, fair elections, so that everybody can equally participate in our democracy. We have the power to make a difference and make history together as a nation, but we must use that power...
