Did you miss the August Free Press Second Saturday Cyber-Salon?
If so, here's a run-down of what happened and how you can be involved next time!
We had some guitar-strumming music by our friend Tom Over, thank you Tom!
Lynn Tramonte of the Ohio Immigrant Alliance spoke about that group and the hideous circumstances of how immigrants are treated in Ohio. More information on how you can support their efforts is below.
We discussed the situation with Miriam Vargas who has been in Sanctuary in Columbus for over two years. Pastor Sally Padgett of the First English Lutheran Church and John Grinstead, an interpreter, told us how the church struggles to keep up with Miriam's needs. How to help is listed below.
Harvey Wasserman talked briefly about the nuke issues in Ohio and about the bribed nuke bailout that brought down Larry Householder.
Greg Palast, New York Times best-selling author, joined us to talk about election fraud issues and tell us about his new book "How Trump Stole 2020" (and how we can steal it back.)
You can view the recording of the Salon on our Free Press Network YouTube ([link removed]) channel: August Cyber-Salon video ([link removed]) .
Lynn Tramonte’s Action Steps from the Ohio Immigrant Alliance ([link removed]) :
Ask your local and state elected officials to write letters to the Morrow County Commissioners ([link removed]) , standing up for their constituents detained there by ICE. Our demand is to close the jail before it becomes 100% COVID-positive again. A secondary ask is to cancel the ICE contract. For background, read this testimony ([link removed]) to the US Commission on Civil Rights and this article by the Columbus Free Press ([link removed]) .
Join the Ohio Immigrant Alliance Facebook Group ([link removed]) to get more involved. There, you can see the announcement about our Ohio Supreme Court candidates forum, jointly hosted with Ohio Prisoners Justice League, and other upcoming actions.
When the Trump presidency is over, we must allow deported people to return to the U.S. This is a crucial part of the healing that this country needs. Read and share this article ([link removed]) from Maria Paz Perez, in DailyKos, whose husband was deported to learn what it is like to live apart. There are actions the executive branch can take to reunite families. If there is a new president next year, we will be advocating for family reunification.
If you can spare any cash, please donate to fund commissaries for detained immigrants ([link removed]) in Ohio.
