Dear A.,

The U.S. blockade of the Strait of Hormuz officially took effect this morning, with more than 15 American ships in place for the operation following negotiations in Pakistan this weekend.

According to reports, negotiations stalled after the Iranian regime rejected core American demands that it give up its stockpile of high-enriched uranium, freeze uranium enrichment for 20 years, end funding for terrorist proxies, and fully reopen the Strait without tolls or fees.

In his press briefing following the talks, Vice President JD Vance
[link removed]
made clear that this was "bad news for Iran much more than it's bad news for the United States of America," underscoring that "We need to see an affirmative commitment that they will not seek a nuclear weapon."

President Trump
[link removed]
added last night that, "Iran is in very bad shape — and just so you understand, Iran will NOT have a nuclear weapon...There is no way. They still want it, and they made that clear the other night. Iran will NOT have a nuclear weapon."

Reports today suggest discussions are ongoing between the sides.

Any deal with Iran must permanently and verifiably ends its nuclear program — including its ability to enrich uranium. It must also address what remains of Iran’s ballistic missile and drone program, cut off its support for terror groups around the region, and ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

executed at least 1,600 people last year, roughly five civilians each day.
