The price of becoming an American citizen just skyrocketed.
Apparently Trump views this pandemic as a great time to make a quick buck -- because his administration just hiked the fee on citizenship applications by over 80%.
It will now cost almost $1200 just to apply to become a U.S. Citizen. And the price gouging doesn’t end there -- asylum-seekers will now have to include $50 with their application for sanctuary.
$50 may not sound like much, but it is an enormous hurdle for someone fleeing with next to nothing. It also means the U.S. is now one of just four countries in the world that charge asylum-seekers for protection. We’re aghast at the way Trump is making money off the most vulnerable. But a recent NPR/Ipsos poll shows that 58% of Americans don’t think the new rules go far enough -- because they’d rather ban asylum-seekers entirely. Are you one of them?
