It’s simple.

Sen. Peters, ranking member on the Senate Homeland Security and Government
Affairs Committee, ignored reports of the country’s unpreparedness for a global
pandemic for years.

Peters ran for Senate during the 2014 Ebola pandemic and was placed on the
Homeland Security Committee after his election, where the committee immediately
reviewed reports and hearings assessing the country’s lack of preparation for
the Ebola virus.

Peters’ responsibilities included serving on two subcommittees, one on
regulatory affairs and federal management and the other was the Federal
Spending Oversight and Emergency Management Subcommittee, Peters skipped 45% of
the subcommittee hearings in 2015 and 80% of the subcommittee hearings in 2016.

At one of Peters’ first committee hearings in 2015, he was presented a
bipartisan report organized by former Gov. Tom Ridge and former Sen. Joe
Lieberman. The report laid out 33 recommendations to enhance the country’s
biodefense preparedness.By March 2020, just 2 of the recommendations had been
fulfilled.

Peters missed hearings. Peters was presented with numerous reports on the
country’s lack of preparedness and did nothing.

In a mid-February 2020 interview, Gary Peters said the risk to the United
States“is very low,” even following a Homeland Security Affairs Committee
hearing on global pandemics that same day. Two days later, Peters traveled to
London for a re-election fundraiser.

He skipped hearings, ignored reports and downplayed the risks.

This pandemic has exposed the need for proven leadership in the toughest of
environments. John served our country for eight years as a Ranger-qualified
Apache attack helicopter pilot flying more than 750 combat hours in Operation
Iraqi Freedom, leading two platoons and bringing every soldier under his
command safely home.

He has made life and death decisions over in the desert and he has made
livelihood decisions here at home in Detroit during the toughest of times in
the automotive industry. John is an independent free-thinking conservative and
will stand up for Michigan and no one else to protect our livelihoods, our
economic security, our national security, and our American way of life.
