Donald Trump's SAVE Act would make it significantly harder for Americans to vote — not non-citizens, not fraudsters, but real, everyday Americans.
Think about the married woman who changed her name and doesn’t have a certified copy of her marriage license on hand. Under this bill, her voter registration could be at risk. Eight in 10 women in this country who marry change their last name, meaning more than 60 million women could be impacted.
Think about the rural voter who lives hours from the nearest registration office. In some parts of this country, re-registering under this bill could mean an 8-hour round trip.
Think about the hourly worker who can't get time off to sort out their documents, re-register, or vote in-person.
This bill isn't about election security — voter fraud is already incredibly rare. And it is already illegal for non-citizens to vote in federal elections, with strict penalties, including deportation.
This bill is about making it harder to vote right before the midterms — hitting rural voters, women, hourly workers, younger voters, and people of color the hardest.
So here's what I'm asking you to do:
1. Talk to someone outside your bubble. A family member in a rural area. A friend in a red state. Someone who might not be seeing accurate information about what this bill actually means for them. Share what you know, because these conversations matter a lot.
2. Call the Senate. The Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121. Tell any senator you can reach — especially Republican senators — that you strongly oppose the SAVE Act, and urge them to vote NO.
We have stopped this bill before because of public pressure. We can do it again — but only if enough people speak up, and speak up loudly.
Thank you for being one of them.
