Donald Trump needs to STOP using my primary election race to further his agenda of undermining our democracy.

He should be focusing on saving the Post Office rather than trying to tank it — but his attempts at dismantling USPS are part of his big plan to disparage mail-in voting. He's using my primary race to spread misinformation that will weaken voters' confidence in the electoral process — all so that he can try to keep his seat safe by suppressing voters.

Earlier this summer, Trump appointed a new Postmaster General — a major donor to Trump's re-election campaign. And the new Postmaster General has been busy doing Trump's bidding implementing detrimental changes to the Post Office.

Under Trump's leadership, USPS has eliminated overtime, lagged on delivery dates, and instructed carriers to leave mail on the floor of distribution centers. We even saw some of the impacts of these changes in our own primary election with mailed ballots that were not postmarked due to a USPS error.

But instead of trying to fix the Postal Service, Trump has been using these lessons from my race to prop up misinformation that mail-in voting is inaccurate and fraudulent, despite there being no data to support this theory.

The USPS is an independent agency that is a constitutionally mandated mail service that so many Americans depend on. The Postal Service delivers essential medications, basic everyday items citizens don’t feel safe walking into the store for, messages that keep us connected to our loved ones, ballots and so much more.

But the Trump administration has made continuous efforts to sabotage U.S. Mail.

That's why when the House just passed H.R.7617 last month, I introduced an important amendment that would stop Trump's Postmaster General from making major changes to USPS operating procedures and efficiency. These changes are harmful, at a time where we must maintain the quality and reliability of mail.

Elections all across the country are running primarily via vote-by-mail. My primary race only further proves that people rely on vote-by-mail options as a means to make sure their voice is heard. So I am doing everything I can to protect the integrity and functionality of the USPS.
