Email from Jamie for Louisiana John,  Trump agreed to a ceasefire in the Middle East on terms deeply favorable to the Iranian regime. Why? Because the damage from the spiraling crisis over Iran, especially gas prices, has gotten so bad that analysts are updating their projections for the 2026 midterms from blue wave to an “extinction level event” for the GOP.  Even if this ceasefire holds and oil begins flowing en masse through the Strait of Hormuz once again, the damage has been done and the upward trend of gas prices isn’t projected to stop rising until months from now. These gas prices are hitting Louisiana, the poorest state in America, harder than anyone else. That, combined with Trump’s growing unpopularity, means MAGA is now underwater even here in Louisiana — a state once counted among the GOP’s safest strongholds. Case in point, a Democrat in a special election here just won by 24 points in a Trump +13 district (a 38% over performance) and that was before the Iran War started.
 Louisiana’s US Senate seat, which is presently held by Bill Cassidy (R-LA) is up for grabs this year, and given what I’ve laid out to you, it’s clear that we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to flip this seat blue. But this isn’t just going to fall into our laps; we’re going to have to work for it. We will not be able to raise the budget we’ll need to pull off a massive feat like this from our networks here in Louisiana alone, pulling this off will require the grassroots support of hundreds of thousands of Democratic donors from across the nation chipping in small-dollar support.
