Dear John,

The world has shifted. You see it. You feel it. The Trump/Republican agenda is not just a set of policies. It is a war. A war on women. A war on truth. A war on anyone who refuses to kneel.

They want us silent. They want you silent . But we do not bow. And neither do you.

I write today to urge — yes, urge — you to become a Ms. Partner for 2026. ([link removed]) Not just as a contribution, but as a reaffirmation.

Because you are not just a reader. You are part of something greater. You are part of the movement to keep facts and actions that threaten women in front of the public — not glazed over by some corporate owners. In short, you are the force that keeps the truth alive.

The Battle Lines Are Drawn

Ms. magazine was born for a time like this. 54 years ago, Gloria Steinem and a small band of determined women set out to create a magazine that didn’t whisper, didn’t apologize and didn’t avert its eyes from the truth.

Your 2026 Ms. Partnership keeps Ms . strong. ([link removed]) It fuels four ad-free print issues of the magazine, amplifying voices that others try to erase. It sustains Msmagazine.com , our online site publishing 150 articles a month reaching over 3.5 million readers. It grows Ms. Studios — feminist podcasts, book talks, and virtual and live programs that spread ideas and inspire action. And it supports Ms. Classroom, bringing real history and real truth to college students who need it most.

What They Are Doing to Women Right Now

Let’s be specific. Because “women’s rights are under attack” has been said so many times it risks feeling abstract. It is not abstract. Here is what is actually happening to women of every age because of this Congress and this administration.

Your education is under siege. Universities are being forced to dismantle women’s and gender studies programs. Title IX — the federal protection against campus sexual harassment and assault — is under direct attack. The classrooms where young women learned they had rights are being dismantled, brick by brick.

Your reproductive health is disappearing. Trump’s “Big Ugly Bill” didn’t just restrict abortion, it defunded Planned Parenthood and independent women’s health clinics that millions of women depend on for birth control, STI testing, cancer screenings, and basic gynecological care. Over 2.3 million women have already lost access to Medicaid-supported reproductive health services. Clinic after clinic has shortened hours, stopped seeing Medicaid patients, or closed entirely. In rural communities, those clinics were the only source of care.

Your paycheck is still being stolen. The gender wage gap is now 16 cents on the dollar and far wider for women of color. The Trump administration has gutted equal opportunity protections, while pressuring private employers to follow. And at the exact moment AI is reshaping every corporate hiring decision, credit score, and performance review, women have no constitutional floor beneath them when those systems discriminate. AI doesn’t need animus to harm you. It only needs precedent — data trained on a world that never treated women as equals.

Your nursing home is next. This is the threat they don’t talk about. The cuts buried in Trump’s so-called Big Beautiful Bill will gut Medicaid funding that millions of older women depend on for long-term care. Nursing home costs run $3,000 to $8,000 a month. Medicare doesn’t cover them. Women, who live longer, earn less, and are far more likely to exhaust their savings on a spouse’s care first, are the ones left destitute. Women are often forced to spend down everything they have just to qualify for Medicaid, leaving them in government-mandated poverty. These are not projections. These are the women in your life.

The 2026 Elections: The Hinge of History

Here is what the architects of all this destruction have counted on: that you won’t connect what they’re doing now to what November can change.

Don’t let them win that bet.

The 2026 midterm elections are not just another election cycle. They are the moment that determines whether the assault on women’s lives continues unchecked, or meets a Congress with the will and the votes to stop it. A flip of just four seats in both the House and Senate would secure a pro-equality Congress. Four. And if the House and Senate flip, we don’t just block Trump’s war on women. We can pass the Joint Congressional Resolution affirming the Equal Rights Amendment as the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution.

That is what is actually at stake in November 2026. Not just the next two years. All the years that come after.

This Is the Moment That Defines Us — All of Us

Some people stand by. Others stand up. You are one of those who stand up. ([link removed])

We don’t merely ask for your 2026 Ms. Partnership support. We ask you to rise. To give more than before, if you can. To stand taller than ever. To refuse to let them erase what we have built and what we are still building.

Because this is the moment. Now is when it matters most. ([link removed])

With resolve and gratitude,

Kathy Spillar
Executive Editor
