Take action for animals trapped in zoos and aquariums

Hello John,
Did you know that right now there is no legal requirement for UK zoos and aquariums to publicly share information on the deaths of animals?
So these businesses which keep thousands of wild animals captive, are able to hide from the public the reasons that animals die in their care.
Yet £100 million of public money is now being offered to zoos by the government, ([link removed]) to bail them out after the impacts of the coronavirus lockdown.
So we deserve to know what this money is funding!
Please sign our open letter to Zac Goldsmith and Defra, demanding zoos be made to share this information, and other crucial data, to protect animals. ([link removed])
Thank you.

Dear John,
Today I am inviting you to add your signature to an urgent open letter we are sending to Zac Goldsmith and DEFRA. ([link removed])
This letter demands that zoos and aquariums be subject to greater public scrutiny and to make it a legal requirement for these businesses to publish a list of information including the causes of death of the animals they hold captive.
For years animals at South Lakes Safari Zoo in Cumbria were dying in tragic and barbaric ways. Some were left to starve, some were electrocuted, some seriously injured. It took years for this horror to be exposed and for action to be taken. ([link removed])
Currently the zoo industry does not have to publicly share information on how or why animals lose their lives. Zoos and aquariums across the UK are able to keep hidden from the public the reasons why animals die in their care.
So today we demand: NO MORE ZOO SECRETS!
This is just one of a list of pieces of information that we are demanding zoos should be required to release to the public.

The zoo industry has recently been offered £100 million by the Government to bail them out during the coronavirus crisis. This is public money and as such, the public deserves to know more about what happens to the animals behind zoo doors.

Having this information means we can more quickly identify and expose extreme cases of animal neglect and suffering. This means we can build cases to close zoos and aquariums without having to wait years for the catalogue of deaths to slowly come out and only after intensive investigation work.
We are also asking that zoos be made to publish information on their TRUE contribution (or lack of) to conservation. How many endangered species are they actually releasing into the wild each year? Very few, if any, is what our research suggests.
I know this information won't help all animals who are being held captive against their will. But it will be a powerful tool in exposing the false claims of zoos and aquariums, and open up their cruel treatment of animals to public scrutiny.
So please, add your signature to our open letter today and demand that zoos and aquariums publish this information, to help in the fight for anial freedom. ([link removed])
No more zoo secrets!
For the animals,
Sam Threadgill
Director
P.S. Please add your name to our open letter today and demand that zoos and aquariums are made to share details on animal deaths, conservation claims and more. No more zoo secrets! ([link removed])
