Hello Friend,
The superannuation age will stay at 65 thanks to New Zealand First
This week the NationalParty have proven how out of touch they are with hardworking New Zealanders, and how little they care about older New Zealander’s wellbeing, by reaffirming their commitment to increase the age of entitlement for New Zealand Superannuation to 67 in 2037.
We know that remaining in the workforce for a couple of extra years would be a huge struggle for some older kiwis. In particular, it would have a disproportionately large effect on both those who are in manual labour work or in lower income professions.
Anyone under the age of 47 needs to seriously consider howNational’s approach would impact them, and those older than 47 need to realise that national cannot be trusted to stick to their word and only implement this in 2037.
Unlike the National Party, New Zealand First has a strong history of representing our senior’s interests. We repealed the surtax on Superannuation, legislated for New Zealand Superannuation to be 66 per cent of the net average wage and introduced the SuperGold Card, with benefits and discounts for senior citizens.
We remain the sole party in Parliament that has consistently advocated for keeping the superannuation age at 65.
Raising the superannuation age will never happen on our watch.
