John,
How’s your vacation going?
Oh, you’re not on vacation? Neither am I — my work and caregiving responsibilities for my daughter and parents are keeping me too busy to even think about taking a vacation.
But you know who isn’t too busy for a vacation? The US Senate, who left DC for their “August Recess” break this week, without agreeing to extend expiring unemployment benefits, or to provide any additional pandemic relief that caregiving families need.
So even though the Senate is in recess, our work continues. On Thursday, I’ll be moderating a caregiver panel at our briefing on Race, Racism and the Care Infrastructure with Caring Across Generations and our allies. And we’d love for you to tune in to watch live!
Click here to RSVP to watch our Congressional Briefing on Thursday, August 13 at 1pm.
In this briefing, we will dive into the systemic racism inherent in our care system, and the investments we must make now to make care jobs good jobs, create security and success for families of color, and especially Black families, and to fuel a swift and just economic recovery. It’s important enough that I’m taking time away from my not-vacation to participate.
We are lucky to be joined by a number of amazing individuals and organizations, including:
-
Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-D);
-
Congresswoman Deb Haaland (NM-D);
-
Ai-jen Poo, Director of Caring Across Generations (CAG) and Executive Director of National Domestic Workers Alliance (NDWA),
-
Josephine Kalipeni, CAG Policy Director and Federal Affairs;
-
Katherine Gallagher Robbins, Director of Child Care and Early Learning at Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP);
-
Aimée-Josiane Twagirumukiza, NDWA We Dream in Black (WeDiB) Director;
-
Azza Altiraifi, Research and Advocacy Manager, Disability Justice Initiative, Center for American Progress (CAP);
-
and caregiver speakers from across the country!
The event will be streamed at the Caring Across Generations Facebook Live, and you do not need a Facebook account to join in!
RSVP now to get a reminder email before this deep and thoughtful conversation.
Hope to see you there, virtually, on August 13 at 1pm!
With care,
