Montana tribes are fighting COVID with innovative public awareness campaigns to help stop the spread. COVID awareness video above, featuring Crow Nation artist Supaman, produced by the Crow Tribal Health Education Department.

Two of Montana's reservations in Big Horn County, Crow Nation and Northern Cheyenne, returned to full lockdown last week after the tragic loss of more lives from COVID, including a woman in her forties. Cases per capita in Big Horn County are 4x that of any other county in Montana, and the Chippewa Cree Tribe also announced its first COVID deaths last week. Now is a critical time for Montana’s tribal communities.

"This invisible enemy has no distinction of race, color, creed nor age. Our only defense at this point of the battle is with Prayer and protecting ourselves by covering our face with a mask and diligently and constantly washing our hands."

The Western Native Voice COVID Relief Fund, the only statewide, Native-led response fund, is distributing urgent relief to Montana's Native leaders, nonprofits and communities. More PPE, water, sanitation supplies and food are needed to stop the spread from accelerating through Montana’s Tribal Nations.

"Pre-pandemic challenges in accessing everyday necessities on reservation in Montana have been seriously exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Donations to this fund allow us to purchase and immediately distribute critical supplies. Many families live in intergenerational homes, your support also helps protect our elders, the holders of sacred cultural knowledge.”
-- Marci McLean, Executive Director (Piikuni) Western Native Voice
