I want to loop you into a conversation I had with Julián Catro the other day. He and I had sat down to discuss the need for police and criminal justice reform, as well as how systemic racism is deeply embedded in both our policing and criminal justice systems.

Team, these are things both Julián and I are deeply passionate about. That's why I'm so glad to be working with Julián to elect candidates who share our passion for reforming the police — and why I sincerely hope you'll join me.

When Julián ran for president, I was really impressed with his ideas for criminal justice reform. Julián had a plan for that, and he embraced some really progressive, transformative proposals that other politicians are only coming around to support now, months later.

Julián called for the demilitarization of our police. He ran on taking the police out of our schools and ending qualified immunity once and for all. Julián also called for an end to ineffective, bigoted "broken windows" policing policies.

But, to accomplish those goals, Julián and I are going to need your help, Team. That's why, through People First Future, Julián is helping elect candidates who share our vision for how we reimagine public safety in this country, and why I'm glad to help him out.

Electing these candidates won't be easy. There are a lot of powerful, well-connected special interests who are trying to kill reform. They're going to spend everything they can to make sure our candidates lose, so we need to get as many people as possible pitching in and supporting them now.
