Dear Fellow Republicans,

Under Illinois law, Republican County organizations in each county are required to hold a county convention on the 29th day following the General Primary. This year, county conventions will take place on April 15, 2026, in accordance with 10 ILCS 5/7-9.

The primary purpose of these conventions is to organize each county’s Republican Central Committee, including the election (or re-election) of a County Chair and other officers. The County Chair must be an elected precinct committeeman, or in Cook County, an elected ward or township committeeman.

In addition to county leadership elections, this year’s conventions will include the election of members to the Illinois Republican Party State Central Committee for the congressional district(s) within each county. These positions are elected by a weighted vote, based on the total number of Republican ballots cast in each precinct within the congressional district. April 7 marked the final day for local election authorities to certify their vote totals. The Illinois Republican Party is currently reviewing all 108 local election authority reports for 102 counties to calculate weighted votes, which will be distributed to County Chairs in advance of the conventions.

We strongly encourage all precinct committeemen to attend their county convention and take part in this important process.

April 7 marked the final day for local election authorities to canvass and certify results, making them officially final. With that process now complete, the Illinois Republican Party is proud to congratulate Max Solomon on his achievement.
