April is Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month in Texas, a time to recognize Texans living with limb loss or limb difference and to raise awareness about the importance of education, prevention, access, and support.

Limb loss and limb difference can affect many areas of daily life, including mobility, employment, healthcare access, recreation, and community participation. People may experience limb loss for many reasons, including injury, illness, or other medical conditions, while others may be born with limb difference.

This month also highlights the importance of prevention and early care. Workplace safety, access to preventive healthcare, and routine medical care can help protect Texans from limb loss and improve long-term outcomes for those at risk

Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month is also an opportunity to recognize the resilience, determination, and strength of Texans with limb loss or limb difference. Across Texas, many continue to meet challenges with courage, adapt in remarkable ways, and encourage others along the way. Their perseverance reflects the strength and resolve that help define the Texas spirit.

In Governor Abbott’s proclamation, he encourages all Texans to educate themselves about limb loss, advocate for vital research, and support Texans living with limb loss and limb difference.
