Dear John,

This week, Minnesotans woke up to a startling Truth Social post by President Trump claiming "a whole civilization will die" in Iran should their government reject a ceasefire. Folks, threatening to wipe out an entire country is beyond the pale – even for this president.

Regardless of your political affiliation – heck, even if you voted for him – this is appalling. And as far as I’m concerned, every elected official – on both sides of the aisle – should be condemning this behavior. These threats, heaven forbid they turn into actions, would literally be war crimes. Not only do they risk unnecessary escalation, but they also put American lives at risk – even on our own soil.

It’s been clear from the start that President Trump waged this war in Iran with no clear objectives and underestimated the global economic crisis Iran could create by closing the Strait of Hormuz. Gas and fertilizer prices are skyrocketing, military families are sending their loved ones into conflict and now civilian lives are on the line too. All this from the president who campaigned on “America First?”

I’m glad that Iran agreed to a two-week ceasefire, but I also have some serious concerns about whether it will hold.

It should be clear to anyone who took an oath to the Constitution that President Trump is not fit for office. And Minnesotans are suffering the very real consequences of increased costs from his reckless decisions. If these comments brought one thing to light, it’s that it’s time to remove this deeply flawed man from the presidency.

Here’s what else I’ve been up to this week:

Addressing the farmer mental health crisis

Farmers are more than twice as likely to die by suicide than folks in the general population. That’s not just a problem – it's a crisis. And it is past time we treat it like one.

On Wednesday, I hosted a roundtable with farmers, mental health professionals, educators, public safety officers and ag leaders to hear about their experiences and continue our work to address the farmer mental health crisis in Minnesota and across the country.

If you, or someone you know, is in crisis – dial 9-8-8 for the suicide hotline. You can also access the Minnesota Farm and Rural Helpline by dialing 833-600-2670 or texting FARMSTRESS to 898211.

Standing up for LGBTQ+ foster youth

The Trump Admin is trying to rescind a policy that would ensure LGBTQ+ foster youth have access to safe and affirming homes. As a proud co-chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I’m leading the fight to protect LGBTQ+ foster youth. Every child deserves a safe, supportive and loving home – no exceptions.

Bringing home more than $7 million in federal funding to CD-2ers

It was great to be in Burnsville yesterday! In Congress, I worked to secure more than $7 million in federal funds for a new bus garage in Burnsville, and this week I joined the Metro Valley Transit Authority and other local leaders for the ribbon cutting.

Behind the scenes:

Even when Congress is out of session – there's work to be done in the district! It was great to get some work done with my Minnesota-based team this week. They’re rockstars!
