When a big corporation rigs the system and takes advantage of everyday Arizonans, I don’t stand by — I take them to court.
Since I took office, I’ve sued to protect renters, seniors, and consumers — stopping scammers, fighting the Fentanyl crisis and the Mexican drug cartels, and combating elder abuse and fraud. I’ve gone after greedy corporations and monopolies unfairly and illegally raising prices.
That includes protecting our kids. My office has issued 451 criminal citations against retailers who have sold tobacco and nicotine products to minors. Selling tobacco and nicotine products to children is illegal, and my office will not look the other way. We’re going after the worst offenders, and we’re putting every retailer in Arizona on notice that they must follow the law.
It’s a never-ending job, keeping on top of these bad actors. For instance, I’ve just had to warn people of a new pernicious scam taking advantage of the fact that many Arizonans have packages coming and going constantly. Scammers pose as delivery companies and email or text consumers telling that they have missed a delivery or that there’s a problem with a package and include a link to fix the issue. But of course it isn’t a real link — it’s a way for the scammers to get personal information and steal identities or infect computers with malware.
Every investigation and case we take to court is a step toward protecting Arizonans from exploitation.
