Late Night at State Board of Education

We spent more than 17 hours at the State Board of Education (SBOE) as they were reviewing the Social Study TEKS on Tuesday, making it a record breaking day for an SBOE meeting. Texas Values was present every minute and continues to be for the entire week, spending early mornings and late nights at the meeting, to ensure the necessary revisions to the social studies standards were given the proper attention the future generation of Texans deserve.

There were many great testimonies about bringing the Ten Commandments into public school and for students to learn that the country was founded on Faith. See the testimony of Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values here.

After taking public testimony, the SBOE is tasked with making amendments to the Social Studies TEKS based on the testimony. The amendment process continued until Thursday. Your Texas Values team has been there to track and give updates on the amendments. The First Reading vote will take place this morning.

Texas Values has been featured in many newscasts throughout the week including twice in Nexstar, ABC 13, CBS Austin, Spectrum News, and more! See a couple of them below:

- Debate over proposed overhaul of Texas social studies coming to a head before vote

- Texans gather to protest proposed social studies changes ahead of long SBOE meeting

- State Board of Education to vote on social studies curriculum changes amid pushback

Texas Values hosted a press conference with state leaders advocating for a revised social studies curriculum that encourages patriotism and civic virtue at Texas State Board of Education (SBOE) Tuesday morning.

Special Guest Pastor Kason Huddleston joins guest host Jonathan Covey, Policy Director for Texas Values on Texas Values Report

"It's time to teach our kids to love our country again.

When you remove faith from history, it doesn’t make it neutral, it is dishonest.

Our children deserve the history that inspires them, not one that apologizes. We are, as Christians or Americans, our state was founded on faith. Our nation was built on faith.

This board can literally shape generations, not only for Texas, but there will be 20+ other states that adopt this same curriculum. We're talking about a nation turning."  ~ Pastor Kason Huddleston
