Republican runoffs in Texas and other key states have turned into expensive, drawn-out fights that are dividing GOP coalitions and draining resources before the general election even begins.

Trump's approval ratings keep sliding, and the candidates who tied themselves closest to him are finding that's a harder sell than it used to be. Meanwhile, Democrats have recruited serious candidates in states that weren't even on the radar a year ago.

None of this means the majority is handed to us. Democrats still need to flip four seats while defending vulnerable incumbents like Jon Ossoff in Georgia. That's a real challenge in a tough map.

Sherrod Brown is leading in early Ohio polling.
Alex Vindman is making Florida competitive.
