Hi john,
Welcome back, friends, to another Friday edition of “What the actual fuck is going on?” Abortion Access Front is topping off your work week with some repro goings-on that may have you abandon life in modern society and head for a janky yurt in the woods. Like forever.
It’s a lot . So buckle up and LFG!
Roe is Dead! Long Live Roe!
It’s been almost four years since Roe was overturned courtesy of the vaginal crossing guards on the fuck you forever Supreme Court who decided our right to guaranteed abortion access wasn’t worth the fish paper it was written on. This week, NPR did the good work of laying out the abortion landscape that was created [[link removed]] in its wake.
Our biggest takeaway? People are having MORE abortions! This shows what we already knew, what pro- and anti-abortion folks knew, and what SCOTUS and politicians knew: that state bans, relentless lawsuits, and not even threats of jail time will stop someone from getting the abortion they need. So what, then, was the point of reversing Roe? To make sure we were punished. The cruelty, friends, is always the point.
Abortion Pills, Plan B, and Birth Control, Oh My!: Our Over-The-Counter Dream Team
Straight out of our pro-abobo fever dreams, a new study published in JAMA suggests that abortion pills should be available over the counter. [[link removed]] Swoon! The paper illustrates how these medications are safe, effective, and meet the FDA’s criteria to make them readily available at CVS like Advil or travel size Aquaphor. But because we can’t have nice things, gremlins like Josh Hawley continue to leap out of the bowels of the manosphere to fuck it all up.
On the left, a screenshot of a Jezebel headline reads, “New Research Makes Wild Suggestion: The Abortion Pill Could Be Over the Counter.” The subheadline reads, “Thanks to JAMA, it’s almost like we live in a reality where expanding reproductive healthcare is obvious.” On the right, a collage of three photos: anti-abortion Sen. Josh Hawley, someone dressed up as an abortion pill with AAF, and Sen. Marsha Blackburn. [[link removed]]
New Feminist Buzzkills Episode: Drops TODAY!
Illustrated graphic promoting a new Feminist Buzzkills podcast episode. Bright yellow text at top left reads NEW POD THIS WEEK. On the left is an illustrated portrait of Moji Alawode-El with short natural hair and a red top. On the right is Lizz Winstead with long white hair, red glasses, and a blue and teal outfit. Both have yellow name tags below their illustrations. On the right, the Feminist Buzzkills Podcast neon-style logo is prominently displayed against a dark starry background. [[link removed]]
Our intrepid Feminist Buzzkills Lizz and Moji are back and bringing good news from Middle Earth — you know, Illinois and Wisconsin. They also go deep laying out how this week's attack on birth control, abortion, and voting rights are the latest ingredients in the larger toxic stew of oppression being cooked up by our enemies.
We Got Guests!
And not just any ol’ guests… 2026 OSCAR NOMINEES! From the documentary short The Devil Is Busy [[link removed]] , Feminist Center For Reproductive Liberation Executive Director Kwajelyn Jackson and Head of Security Tracii Wesley talk about the film, and navigating all the challenges providing abortion care under a six week ban in Georgia. It’s a lot, y’all, but they’re dropping the knowledge you didn’t know you needed.
A graphic promoting the guests of the April 10 Feminist Buzzkills podcast episode. In the center is the Feminist Buzzkills Podcast neon-style logo against a dark starry background. On the left is a headshot of feminist author & activist Kate Schatz, with text underneath her name reads, “Explores coming of age in a maternity home in the 60 with her new book, Where The Girls Were.” On the right are headshots of Executive Director Kwajelyn Jackson and Head of Security Tracii Wesley. Text under their names reads, “Serving patients with compassion in HBO’s Oscar nominated short about the Feminist Center for Reproductive Liberation, The Devil Is Busy.” [[link removed]]
PLUS! Author and rad feminist Kate Schatz is talking coming of age in the ‘90s, and how her own mom’s experiences inspired her new book, Where The Girls Were. It’s a heartbreaking and empowering story of unintended pregnancy, maternity homes, and resilience set in the late 1960’s. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll immediately buy her book. It’s the only way.
