Did you know that Smithfield is not only mass murdering pigs and exploiting immigrant workers, but also spraying literal pig poop all over communities of color in North Carolina? This is why we took action! DxE activists went to the mansion of the CEO of Smithfield and sprayed pig shit from his own animal-torture facility all over the yard. In a single year, Smithfield Foods discharged 3.6 million tons of toxic pollutants from its Tar Heel, North Carolina slaughterhouse into state waters. The company sprays out waste from its manure lagoons, polluting communities of color. A study by the North Carolina Medical Journal found that families living near pig CAFOs experience higher rates of infant mortality and death from anaemia, kidney disease, and tuberculosis. In North Carolina, dozens of lawsuits have been filed against Smithfield, resulting in hundreds of millions in judgments against Smithfield payable to people living near their farms. Tuesday, August 11th, 6 PM: Police Liaison Online Training - Ever wanted to learn the role of a Police Liaison? Come learn from experienced police liaison Paul Darwin Picklesimer. This is the time to come and ask questions, set goals for learning the skills you would need to be in this role, and gain knowledge about how to interact with police. During demonstrations, the police liaison is the only point of contact between the police and an activist group, and advocates for the needs of the group. Zoom link coming soon on the event page.

Monday, August 17th, 6 PM: Q&A with DxE's Lead Organizer - In-person "office hours" with Almira Tanner (DxE's lead organizer) are on hold for the time being, but we've still got the power of the internet! Almira will be hanging out on the Zoom call and available to answer your questions and hear feedback, suggestions, and more. You can join for the whole hour or just for a couple minutes.
