Dear Neighbor,

Athletic participation should be based on biological sex, ensuring a level playing field for everyone involved. It is disappointing that House Democrats prevented action on three separate bills this week that would protect safe and fair athletic competitions for biological females.

This is an insult to young girls and the people who worked so hard to advance Title IX that Twin Cities liberals turned their back on them and the vast majority of Minnesotans who support the simple idea that boys should not be playing girls sports.

This discussion began last March and people back home tell me they can't believe we haven’t settled the issue once and for all because keeping biological boys out of girls sports is basic common sense. To paraphrase what I said [ [link removed] ] on the House floor, it is an easy vote for what is right, for what is safe, and for what is fair.

Over the last 25 years, my wife and I have raised two sons and one daughter. We’ve been at more track meets, in more basketball gyms, on more golf courses, and watched more cross country races than you can imagine.

There is clearly a biological difference between males and females that we can either acknowledge or blindly ignore. Just as one example: One son, who is a multiple-sport athlete, runs the 800-meter dash (two laps around the track) in 1 minute 57 seconds. The average girl runs that same distance in something like 2 minutes, 35 seconds or 2 minutes, 40 seconds.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota State High School League refuses [ [link removed] ] to comply with a federal ban on biological males competing in female sports. Last spring, a male-born pitcher led a female softball team to a state championship, tossing a complete-game shutout [ [link removed] ] to win the title.

These bills are common sense, and I support them because I support female athletes and will stand up for them every time.

*Affordability in MN*

Many Minnesotans are suffering too much month left at the end of the money these days. We need to make our state more affordable, especially after the former trifecta’s reckless spending and unnecessary tax increases made it even more expensive to live, work and raise a family here.

Due to hard-fought efforts by Republicans in a tied House last year, the biennial budget went from $71 billion in 2024-25 to $66.35 billion in 2026-27. That 6.5-percent decrease is a good start, but much more needs to be done to create sustainability.

A press conference took place where we laid out the North Star Comeback, a package of numerous proposals House Republicans are authoring to lighten the burden Minnesotans are suffering. This includes a one-time property tax refund, ending taxes on tips and overtime, lowering childcare costs, cutting car tab fees, and delivering hundreds of millions of dollars to Minnesota schools at no cost to taxpayers through scholarship granting organizations.
