** Update on critical Maine Senate race!

AAAFund is co-hosting a big virtual fundraiser on 9/1 for the fabulous Sara Gideon, the Democrat challenging Senator Susan Collins in Maine. Our friend, Senator Mazie Hirono, is the guest of honor!

** It's convention time!

The DNC Convention ([link removed]) is just around the corner, and we're determined to have some fun social time. AAAFund is hosting a Young Professionals event next Wednesday, 8/19, so young AAPI Democrats can connect in a less formal space. Let's organize and keep the momentum going!

** AAAFund proudly endorses Dr. Hiral Tiperneni and Sima Ladjevardian!

Check out our amazing new endorsees: Hiral ([link removed]) , in Arizona's 6th Congressional District, and Sima ([link removed]) , in Texas's 2nd Congressional District.
Hiral has worked as an emergency room physician and cancer research advocate for 20 years. She immigrated to the United States from India when she was just 3 years old, and now she's running the hottest Congressional race in Arizona, against an incumbent who's facing multiple House ethics investigations.
Sima is a political activist, lawyer, and breast cancer survivor. Her family fled the Iranian Revolution and she grew up to become an activist bringing communities together. She has also worked to elect Democrats all over Texas and led philanthropic and nonprofit work in her Houston community.
** A note about police violence and recent protests
------------------------------------------------------------
Like many of you, we have been taking time to reflect on the events of this summer, which have brought to light the magnitude of police brutality against Black lives. It's not been easy, but change should not feel comfortable. We encourage you and your friends and family to lean into this discomfort and really think about your personal role, and the AAPI community's role, in the fight against racism.
A few writers on our media team have begun sharing their thoughts about anti-Blackness in our own AAPI community and our interactions with structural racism. Find their reflections in a blog series, here ([link removed]) and here ([link removed]) , and look out for the next post later this week!

ICYMI: Last but not least, we hope you had the opportunity to watch the Biden campaign event for Chinese Americans, headlined by Michelle Kwan and Yo Yo Ma! Panelists included AAAFund friends Reps Judy Chu, Grace Meng, and Ted Lieu.
