Dear A.,
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
[link removed]
announced today that Israel will "begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible" and that "negotiations will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon."
The prime minister hailed the potential for “a historic and sustainable peace” between the two countries, while committing to continue strikes on Hezbollah terrorists “with great force” until security is restored for Israel’s citizens.
Direct negotiations will reportedly begin next week in Washington. The American side will be led by U.S. Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa. Israel will be represented by Ambassador Yechiel Leiter.
Meanwhile, the Lebanese government has

instructed the Lebanese Armed Forces to demilitarize Beirut and ensure weapons only go to legitimate state forces, not terrorist groups like Hezbollah.
Lebanon also rejected the Iranian regime dictating the terms of any negotiations on its behalf. "No one negotiates in the name of Lebanon except the Lebanese state," Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam

White House: Lebanon not part of ceasefire with Iran
Despite the claims of the Iranian regime, Lebanon and Hezbollah were not included in Tuesday's ceasefire deal, which Iran continues to break by refusing to open the Strait of Hormuz and

launching attacks on Gulf Arab states.
Vice President JD Vance

told reporters yesterday that, "the Iranians thought that the ceasefire included Lebanon, and it just didn't. We never made that promise. We never indicated that was going to be the case. What we said is that the ceasefire would be focused on Iran, and the ceasefire would be focused on America's allies, both Israel and the Gulf Arab states."
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt

added that, "Lebanon is not part of the ceasefire. That has been related to all parties involved in the ceasefire."
Vice President Vance and White House Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will
