55 years ago today, Congress passed the Voting Rights Act, enshrining protections for all voters into law after decades of disenfranchisement for Black Americans.

Yet in 2013, the Supreme Court gutted the VRA, allowing Republican voter suppression to run rampant.

We’ve seen states enact strict voter ID laws, purge voter rolls, shut down polling locations, and more – making it harder to vote, especially for people of color.

In honor of John Lewis – who put his life on the line to give Black Americans the right to vote – and with the November elections less than 100 days away, Michael is fighting to restore the Voting Rights Act and strengthen our democracy.
