What unites us in this campaign, what compels us and guides us, is a deep desire for justice and equality. That yearning for deep and fundamental change in our present society becomes so much more acute in the face of a cruel and callous president. Daily injustices threaten to wear us down, to steal our hope.

This is why our campaign has made impeachment of the president a rallying cry. We’re asked, “Why impeachment when there is an election next year?” And we say, not one more day of this mad president who thinks he’s a king.

We believe that 2020 can be a watershed year. More and more of our fellow Americans are waking up to the rot inherent in the system and are taking up the call to oppose the Kleptocrat in Chief and to reform the Democratic Party. We have no illusions that change will come easy—and here in San Francisco we are going right for the top as we seek to replace Speaker Pelosi with a real representative of the compassionate and progressive voice of our city.

Speaker Pelosi has been complicit in advancing the president’s agenda: offering billions for migrant detention, opening the 116th Congress with financial rules that hobbled Democratic legislation before it even left the House, and refusing to pursue impeachment hearings. It is time to replace the morally bankrupt leadership of this party.
