As I write this, voters are casting their ballots to choose which leaders will serve on the Salt River Project Board (SRP), and the outcome of this local race could have national consequences.

The SRP Clean Energy slate has a real chance to win and help steer the country’s largest public utility toward a cleaner, more affordable future. If these climate leaders come out on top, this local race could send a message to utilities (and the billionaire mega-donors) nationwide: people are with us.

In case you hadn’t heard, John, this local race has drawn the attention of Big Oil’s allies.

The extreme right-wing group Turning Point must have seen us help elect three incredible clean energy leaders to the Board in 2024, because they decided to jump in, too.

Turning Point has deployed hundreds of organizers and are putting up billboards to tip the scales for oily billionaires and Big Polluters.

Whether it’s a local race like this one, or a contest at the national level, we cannot let Big Oil’s influence go unchallenged.

Imagine a public utility like the Salt River Project Board successfully making the switch to 100% clean energy while keeping rates low for consumers. Two million people would get access to a more sustainable power grid — and every other public utility in the nation could be compelled to fall in line.
