John, did you see Cameron's message on Thursday?

It's an important reminder of what's at stake in this election, and the core values that we're fighting for.

To ensure that Cameron can be the advocate that VA-05 needs, we're taking nothing for granted--and that means we're aggressively pushing to make all our fundraising goals from now until Election Day. Our next big deadline is on Saturday, when we'll be making key decisions about our investments for the second half of August.

We need to raise $9,107 more by then to meet our goal. Can you help us close the gap by making a grassroots donation now? I know we can rely on you to help us finish strong.

-----FORWARDED MESSAGE-----

Hey John,

In case you missed it, several states had elections this week: in Arizona, Kansas, Michigan and Missouri. While those races determined who was going to be on the ballot on November 3rd in those states, Missouri--in particular--had access to care on the ballot.

Missouri Amendment 2--the Medicaid Expansion Initiative--was proposed to expand Medicaid eligibility in the state to as many as 217,000 low-income adults. On Tuesday, the people of Missouri voted to do just that, making them the 39th state to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.

The thing is, this decision was made in the context of our current times. This COVID-19 pandemic has put so many people out of work and left millions without healthcare coverage. In fact, as a nation, we are facing more factors leading to uninsurance than at any point since the ACA was passed.

Our current moment highlights the critical importance of having experts on issues like health care in public office--in spaces to fight for the well-being of all Americans. If elected to Congress in November, I will be a compassionate leader who will work to make sure everyone in this country has coverage--no matter what crises come our way. Will you help me get there by donating to my campaign today?

Here in Virginia, we know better than most how valuable the Medicaid expansion can be. We just implemented our expansion of Medicaid last year, and over 740,000 of our family members and friends and neighbors have access to healthcare today because of that expansion.

I'm proud to have been appointed by Gov. Northam to Virginia's Board of Medical Assistance Services--our Medicaid Board--helping to provide oversight in the work to ensure that those in need have the care they deserve. From that perspective--and from my perspective providing care to the community--these kinds of gains are significant and impactful. These are necessary reforms that move us closer to our goal of achieving universal coverage in the United States.

Meanwhile, my opponent has repeatedly voiced his goal of repealing the ACA and repealing the Medicaid expansion. He wants those 740,000 Virginians to lose the healthcare coverage that they only recently gained. He wants states like Missouri and Virginia--and 37 others--to have no say in whether or not they can offer coverage to some of their lowest income individuals.

We all know that we can't let that happen. I will always do everything in my power to fight for access to care--and I hope you'll help me to do so in the halls of Congress. Please chip in to help me get across the finish line -- so I can begin the real fight on behalf of the people of VA-05.
