After Southwest Washington voters made their voices heard in the primary election this past week, Carolyn sat down (virtually) with The Columbian and her opponent, Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, for the first time in this year’s race.

During the conversation, Herrera Beutler revealed who she’s planning on voting for president this November: Donald Trump.

In the 2016 presidential election, the Republican representative wrote in Paul Ryan. What’s changed since then?

In the last four years, we’ve seen this administration attack the Affordable Care Act (just like Herrera Beutler has), give tax breaks to corporations and the wealthiest few rather than working families, and completely fail to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, which has left 160,000 Americans dead and more than 4 million infected.

After all that, one has to wonder why Herrera Beutler would vote for Trump this time around. We think it’s clear: she’s putting party before country.
