Trevor’s mission — our daily work — is urgent. Last week, the Supreme Court issued a decision in Chiles v. Salazar, the case about conversion therapy. The Court determined that the Colorado law at the center of the case can be considered "protected speech" under the First Amendment. As a result, the case has been sent back to the lower court for reconsideration.
The Supreme Court’s decision has placed conversion therapy bans at risk, which in turn places many young LGBTQ+ lives at risk.
Every year, more than 1.8 million LGBTQ+ young people in the United States seriously consider suicide. Trevor’s research shows that LGBTQ+ youth who experienced conversion therapy are more than twice as likely to attempt suicide.
