John,
We are on the cusp of an eviction crisis and Depression-like levels of poverty.
Thanks to a failure of leadership in the Senate and the White House, millions of American families are worried about keeping a roof over their heads and food on the table after Congress let much of the coronavirus relief expire.
I know what that's like, John.
When I was a kid, my mom left my dad. After years of experiencing domestic violence, she knew she and my siblings and I needed to get out.
My mom was my hero. She put herself through community college -- the same one that I later attended -- as a single parent, all while working to support our family.
Times were tough, and we had to make every dollar stretch. We worried constantly about making ends meet. I know that weighed on my mom.
My mom eventually became a nurse who helped take care of HIV patients at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. She believed in serving others and instilled that value in me. I will never stop trying to make a difference -- and to make my mom proud.
Now, I'm running for Congress to serve the people of our district, and because I believe that more of our legislators should know what it means to face poverty. Maybe if they did, they'd work a little harder to get our people the support they need now.
John, I will never stop fighting for our community in the House of Representatives, but I can't get there without your support. Can you contribute $5 or more today so we can win in November?
I couldn't do it without you. Thank you.
-- Christy
