Friend — this is big — the latest polls have just come out, and it's looking like we officially have a real shot at an environmental majority in the Senate.
Montana. North Carolina. Colorado. Arizona. Michigan. These are all races that could still go either way.
Our research is showing that each of these races could be decided by the environmental movement.
And any one of them could decide the majority in the Senate.
The catch is that to win, we need to scale up and we need to do it quickly. We urgently need to raise $70,000 more for turnout efforts before the end of the month — and a donor has just put up a challenge match to triple every contribution until then.
I hope you'll help, if you can — when everyone pitches in, even small donations like $5 are a big help. Please, donate to the LCV Victory Fund today. Your contribution will be tripled »
Just a couple weeks ago, we made a huge announcement: we added five new members to the Dirty Dozen — all Senate candidates. For nearly 25 years, our Dirty Dozen program has targeted candidates who consistently side against the environment and are running in races in which the environmental movement has a serious chance to affect the outcome.
We defeat the Dirty Dozen, cycle after cycle — it's what we do.
And these Senate races matter —
the way the math works out, if we lose any, it becomes much harder to win an environmental majority. Here's the breakdown:
Martha McSally: In Arizona, a recent poll has the race within two points. Martha McSally has a lifetime LCV score of just 7%. She supported Trump's moves to gut meaningful limits on carbon pollution, and has taken over $650,000 in campaign donations from the corporate oil and gas industries.
This is a race that can easily be swung by the environmental movement, but we all need to step up »
Cory Gardner: In Colorado, Gardner has earned an 11% lifetime LCV score, and in the first three years of the Trump administration he backed the president's extreme policies over 97% of the time. His race could still be tight, but this could be an incredible chance to pick up a Senate seat.
That won't happen if the environmental movement stays home »
Steve Daines: In Montana, Senator Daines is a climate change denier with a lifetime LCV score of just 6%. This is a state where Senate races have been decided by margins of hundreds of votes, and polling in the state is particularly tricky — but right now Daines is in the lead.
We have to turn this one around if we want to win a majority in the Senate.
»
Thom Tillis: In North Carolina, Senator Tillis has embraced climate change denial even after his own state has been hit by devastating hurricanes in recent years. He's pocketed hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporate polluters — but we have a shot at beating him.
I'm hoping we can count on your help »
John James: In Michigan, political newcomer John James is challenging a pro-environment senator — and the race is tightening. James has said he supports the Trump agenda "2000%" — we could lose our shot at the Senate if he takes this seat.
Please, pitch in today. Gifts of any size — even $5 — will help »
And of course there's Trump — the dirtiest member of the Dirty Dozen. If we win every competitive Senate race and lose the White House, it's still game over for the environment.
Here's our update on Trump: right now, our teams have been continuing aggressive outreach targeting portions of the public that care deeply about the environment but haven't been following Trump's environmental policies closely.
The response has been shocking —
many people simply don't know about Trump's environmental record. About the steps he's taken to gut air and water protections. To sell off national monuments to the energy industry. To undermine sound science every step of the way.
But as soon as they do know, their votes shift in a serious way. Our research is showing that after a conversation with these voters, we're generating a swing of 20 points away from Trump.
The way that math works out — that change ALONE is enough to swing Arizona, Florida, Michigan, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin by more votes than Trump won by in 2016. We need to keep this going — it's working, friend.
Please, donate today — your contribution will be triple matched. Even $5 is enough to make a big difference »
The path to victory — for the White House, the House, and the Senate — runs directly through the environmental movement, and we have a responsibility to do everything we can to win this election.
We've mapped out the most effective, large-scale environmental voter turnout program in the country — but it's going to take help from the whole movement to pull it off.
I promise that we can do this, if we do it together. Thank you, friend, for everything you do.
Onward,
