Last week, I wrote to you about Linda McMahon’s first year as Secretary of Education and what it has meant for Maine kids now that the person overseeing their educational future spent most of her career producing pay-per-view wrestling matches — not shaping education policy.

Well, the ink wasn't even dry before this happened:

On Friday, Trump released his budget proposal for next year, and it includes deep cuts to research funding, the elimination of programs that support first-generation college students, and fewer resources for schools serving low-income kids.

All so he can bankroll a $1.5 trillion military budget for a war he claimed would be over in a couple of weeks — and that Congress never authorized.

Maine students can’t afford to wait for a new president. We have to stand up to the damaging cuts and reckless policies coming out of the Trump administration now — and we need leadership here at home that can do more than just call him out. We need a real plan that will get kids reading on grade level, prepare them for the future, and build public schools strong enough to deliver for every student in Maine.

I have a plan to do exactly that. I’ve laid out what it will take to get kids reading by the end of third grade, prepare students for life after high school, and make Maine’s public schools stronger from the ground up.

But a plan only matters if you can put it into action. So if you’re ready to elect a governor who will not just push back on the damage coming out of Washington, but actually deliver for Maine kids, I’m asking you to chip in and help me make it happen. [[link removed]]
