In Illinois, we stand up to bullies; we don’t just sit back and watch.
Even as other states capitulated to Donald Trump, the seemingly unstoppable force of Trump’s unrestrained power met the immovable object of Illinoisans’ courage.
All over the state:
- Neighbors protected neighbors from ICE.
- Suburban moms blew their whistles to warn people when masked federal agents in unmarked cars came onto their blocks.
- Parishioners formed human chains around churches so immigrants could worship.
- People volunteered to be rapid responders where neighborhoods were under threat.
- Every day, folks took out their cell phones, filmed the attacks, and posted them online so the nation could see what was taking place in our cities.
Together, we exposed the lies of Kristi Noem, Stephen Miller, Tom Homan, and Greg Bovino. And we made the Trump administration’s violence and corruption impossible for the nation to ignore.
Illinoisans are strong, and we will always stand together against authoritarianism, violence, and hate.
But across the country, politicians are giving in to Trump and giving up on their constituents. When leaders stop protecting their citizens, the Trump administration is given a free pass to do whatever it wants, but I refuse to stand by and watch as our neighbors are left behind.
So I am asking you , James, to sign on to my petition to demand that state governments stand up to Trump and his corrupt administration.
We cannot leave our fellow Americans behind.
