John, I want to
thank you.

Our victory this week in the reelection race for Circuit Attorney of St.
Louis has clearly shown that our community will continue to fight for the
institutional reform we deserve.

The work of reforming our justice system has always been personal to me.
But in this campaign it got really personal. The level of opposition and
hate that our campaign and I personally encountered was astounding. 

The fact that Real Justice supporters around the country were lining up
behind us was a game changer. It gave me even more confidence and energy
to stand up to the attacks. And it gave our campaign the resources to not
only win, but win resoundingly. 

Now is the time to build off this momentum, and elect leaders across the
country who will take on racist systems, and fiercely advocate for real
justice.

This isn’t just about winning an election. The progress we are making in
St. Louis is transforming lives. We’ve accomplished significant structural
changes in our mass incarceration and legal justice systems. We were able
to reduce the jail population by 40% and we’ve done so without any related
influx in crime. We were able to expand services to victims of crime, and
to create a Conviction Integrity Unit for more police accountability. I’m
incredibly proud of these accomplishments for the people of St. Louis, and
so grateful to you that our office can continue this progress. 

Everyone deserves to be represented and protected by judicial systems that
prioritize justice and safety — not sustain mass incarceration and racist
systems. I can tell you personally that this work attracts tremendous
opposition, ridicule and attacks. 

It will take all of us to support the institutions and individuals who
fearlessly fight for change, so that all communities can have the future
they deserve.
