This win belongs to you. When the legislature tried to tie this funding to “poison pill” loopholes that would have let polluters off the hook, you raised your voice. Together, we sent 1,400 emails, made 2,000 calls, knocked on more than 1,000 doors, and reached thousands with a robust digital campaign.
We pressured the legislature to prioritize people over polluters, and they listened. Thanks to your relentless advocacy, this bill passed the legislature unanimously!
How we got here:
- A seven-year fight: From the first PFAS standards to our Right to Know campaign, this was a marathon not a sprint.
-
A massive coalition: We grew a stakeholder group from 30 to more than 60 organizations, all demanding a $1 billion investment in our water.
-
A purple legislature: We invested in elections that flipped the composition of the State Supreme Court to a pro-conservation majority, we won fair maps, and we helped flip 14 seats in the state legislature so that it now needs to be more responsive to impacted Wisconsinites.
-
Real results: This session, we secured a total of $894 million for Wisconsin’s water infrastructure. That’s nearly 90 percent of what one Capitol insider called our “irresponsibly ambitious” goal!
TAKE ACTION! Join us in thanking Gov. Evers >>>
Gov. Evers has been a champion for clean water since day one of his administration. By signing this bill and removing those dangerous polluter loopholes, he has secured a safer future for Wisconsin families.
While we celebrate today, our work is far from over. We still need to pass the Water Pollution Notification Act, finalize groundwater protections, and ensure polluters pay for the messes they make.
Today, though, take a moment to be proud, and consider the lives you’ve improved and even saved by continuing to fight and build community.
