We need your help to stop these direct attacks on the rule of law

Dear John,

A few weeks ago, the Trump administration sent federal troops to fire tear gas and beat and attack peaceful protesters, including mothers and veterans in Portland, Oregon. These actions and others—including shifting money from the military to build a border wall or attacking the ability of Congress to exercise its oversight authority—are direct attacks on the rule of law and can’t be tolerated.

We need your support to stop it in its tracks.

We know that this abuse of power, if left unchecked, will grow worse.  Through our research, we are shining a light on the Trump administration’s corruption, as seen in our recent report, “How a Future President Can Hold the Trump Administration Accountable,” which was written up by The Washington Post. Our goal is to send a clear message to government officials that any illegal activity can be punished by a future administration. This accountability is the clearest way to try to discourage continued lawlessness in the lead up to the election.

This is the start of a major campaign for CAP around accountability for Trump administration officials. We urgently need to scale up this effort in the next few weeks. Would you consider making a donation to support this kind of work? Your dollars will be put to immediate use to monitor administration officials, get the message out, organize resistance, and take all the steps we can to stop these abuses of power in these critical weeks.

This is an urgent and vulnerable moment for our democracy—and we need your help.

Sincerely,

Neera Tanden
